Hugh Portanier Mifsud

President

The President of MHSA coordinates all MHSA events and initiatives, ensures the overall well being of the Faculty of Health Sciences’ students and is MHSA’s primary spokesperson.

Hugh is a third year nursing student who previously occupied the role of external affairs officer. He is passionate about literature and enjoys reading a variety of genres. He also forms part of Red Cross Malta where he is a First Aider. Furthermore, he finds solace in long walks by the sea with his dog.

Marilena Bezzina

Vice-President

The Vice President handles all human resources of MHSA. They take care of recruitment and internal affairs along with database and records management for the organisation.

Marilena is a second year Biomedical Science student who has taken on the role of Vice President. She has a keen interest in scientific research, particularly in the areas related to biotechnology. When she isn't scouring research articles, you'll find her snapping photos of landscapes or cozying up with a good history book, learning about times gone by.

Martina DeMarco

Secretary General

The Secretary General ensures smooth functioning throughout the organisation and is the main point of contact for all offices. There is also the responsibility of ensuring all meetings held by MHSA are well organised and minuted.

Martina is a third year Nursing student. She is always eager to help out and care for others. She enjoys drawing, practising photography, and going for hikes as a way to destress

Katrina Cassar

Treasurer

The Financial Officer safeguards MHSA’s finances by taking care of sponsorship and liaising with the team regarding financial management.

Katrina is a second-year Occupational Therapy Student. During her free time, Katrina enjoys nature walks, travelling, going to the beach and she is always down to catch up with friends. She is also part of a family-run buisness making her the fourth generation of the establishment.

Anastasiia Paulaitis

Education Officer

This office is responsible for educational events outside of the lecture rooms. Whether this is via campaigns, workshops, or infographics, the educational officer aims to provide useful and insightful material to the Faculty of Health Sciences’ students.

Anastasiya is a second year Biomedical science student. She loves swimming, reading books on the beach, meditating and learning new things. She also has some interest in gaming, so she is always happy to discuss some renovation games.

Yasmin Cassar

Media Officer

This office takes care of communicating with the public, primarily through media. This entails branding, marketing and effective promotion of events whilst keeping all social media accounts active. The running of MHSA’s official website also falls under this office.

Yasmin is a second year Nursing student. After completing a Bachelor's in Psychology she decided to pursue her second degree in Nursing to further enhance her knowledge in healthcare. In her free time, she can be found reading a good fantasy novel or volunteering as a Girl Guide leader in her local community

Martha Spiteri

Leisure OFFICER

The International Officer organises MHSA’s international trip, as well as any further international experiences such as conferences or research expositions.

Martha is a second year Nursing student. Being a person passionate about activism, she decided to embark on her role as Leisure Officer within the MHSA. She loves communicating and one day wishes to fulfill her dream of becoming a psychiatrist. In her free time, she likes to read, make herself useful in the kitchen, or play classical music on the piano.

Kurt Axisa

Health Officer

This office takes care of promoting health to the general public, representing students within the Faculty of Health Sciences through health-related events, and health checks. These are carried out all over the island, allowing students to use and develop their skills outside of University.

Kurt is a second year medical physics student and is serving his first term in MHSA. He's an offbeat individual, who likes listening to podcasts, reading philosophy, and psychology-themed books, and enjoys his share of irreverent humour.

SOCIAL POLICY OFFICER

The Social Policy Officer is in charge of representing MHSA in social policy meetings and writing up policy papers on various topics and current affairs.

Jake Axisa is a third-year Radiography student. He sees that the most important thing in life would be the people you surround yourself with. He enjoys playing single player games like God of War and Hollow Knight. In his spare time, he cuddles with his dog and sees what other hair styles he can do.

This role entails organising, planning and collaborating on external events such as Freshers’ Week, Science in the City and Notte Bianca amongst others.

Ian Cortis is a second year podiatry student. He has a passion for sport and played football for numerous years. Having a love for dogs and the great outdoors, you can often find him spending some quality time with his furry friend
